Welcome to our news section which contains interesting articles on the frozenfood industry.
Food price inflation set to stay
According toThe Grocer supermarket prices in February have risen 1.3% since last month and remain 15.4% higher than last year.
A lot of the inflation is due to oil prices and high commodity of last year - prices take a long time to filter through especially on goods with a long shelf life.
Another big issue is the fall of the pound as most food commodities are priced in dollars. The weak pound caused a 3% increase in fruit and veg prices alone.
Another good reason to buy frozen fruit and vegetables due to the fact they last much longer and you only use what you need - no more throwing away half used vegetables and fruit!
Other factors influencing the inflation is last years poor summer weather caused by heavy rainfall. All this looks set to mean that food prices are not going to start dropping any time soon.

Frozen Food is Healthy
According to an article on the Washington Post website; American Dietetic Association national spokeswoman Katherine Tallmadge says that Flash-freezing technology has become so advanced that many fresh and frozen items "are basically the same. The freezing process doesn't dilute the food's nutritional value."
In fact, when vegetables are "picked at their ripest... you have maximum nutrient strength because they're in the environment longer and can absorb more nutrients from the soil" Tallmadge adds. That beats canned produce, which may include extra sodium, and foods shipped from far away and picked when not fully ripe.
For those trying to improve their health, Tallmadge also recommends keeping a couple of bags of frozen fruit and vegetables handy for snacking and when tempted by junk foods.

The New Ice Age?

As a member of the British Frozen Food Federation Eismann is pleased to see the launch of a new initiative to promote the benefits of Frozen Food; The New Ice Age.com which promotes the benefits of frozen food on a whole new level. To launch the start of this new initiative a wall of ice was erected at London's Southbank Centre which encompassed an array of fruit, vegetables and seafood suspended in the ice. This was done to showcase the freshness and high quality of frozen foods.

Frozen food is better value for money.

Frozen food sales are on the increase due to the fact that frozen food provides better value for money, there is less wastage and celebrity chefs have started to promote the values of frozen food when cooking.
Due to the credit crunch and the weakening economy shoppers are switching to frozen food products as they are cheaper and you only use what is needed. According to official reports britons throw away £10 billion of produce each year.
As per an article in the Mail Online Brian Young, Director of the British Frozen Food Federation was quoted saying that "The cards are stacked in favour of frozen, premium products and fewer cheaper value items will keep values growing".

Recycling Matters

Some of the major supermarkets have recently advertised their commitment to reducing packaging of their own label products.
Here at eismann we started our own packaging reduction scheme 3 years ago moving a lot of our products from cardboard boxes to sleeves in an effort to reduce waste. We also run a cardboard compactor to ensure that all our used packaging is sent for recycling to a local contractor Pearce Recycling. We are doing our bit for the environment and we hope that you can too by participating in your local councils recycling scheme and recycling as much packaging as possible.

Frozen Food is the way forward

According to an article in The Grocer consumers are turning to frozen food during the recession due to a variety of reasons including value for money, quality, reduction in shopping trips, benefits to the environment and less wastage.
At eismann we go one step further by offering a shop at your door, which means less CO2 emissions as our partners visit customers on area dedicated rounds and it also means you do not have to drive to the supermarket as often, saving petrol and reducing CO2 emissions even further.
With frozen food you only need to use what you need, modern freezing techniques trap in the freshness that may not be there on shelf produce and you get more for you money! All in all there are lots of very good reasons to shop at eismann!

Beware: Hidden Price Increases
Money off deals in food shops are being used to create price increases once the product is no longer on special offer. According to research by The Grocer 25% of branded products show a price increase when any money saving offer ends. At Eismann we guarantee prices for a year so you know that once a product returns to full price there will be no extra costs involved!

School Lunch Study Findings
A new scientic report commissioned by the British Frozen Food Federation and the Local Authorities Caterers Association found that statistically there is no significant difference between fresh and frozen food in the 37 nutrients tested. Researchers at Sheffield Hallam University Centre for Food Innovation recommended Frozen Food for use in school meals as it was effective in providing appropriate nutrition and also had additional key features suitable for catering as there is better availability, convenience, more stable pricing and less waste. Cost, waste and taste...the Frozen Food way

The British Frozen Food Federation have teamed up with the Manchester Food Research Centre, which is part of Manchester Metropolitan University, to create a comparison on the cost, waste and taste of Frozen Food versus Fresh Food. Nine families were selected to take part in the comparison spending one week cooking with fresh food and one week cooking using frozen food. The comparison found that cooking with frozen food is 33% better value with the cost of frozen food being £27.60 for the week and fresh food being £41.29 per week on average.
There is also less waste with frozen food with an average of 519 grams of fresh frozen food being thrown away a week compared to only 328 grams of frozen food. The families tested also commented on the fact that there were some frozen meals that tasted “better than home made” or “as good as”.
However overall one family stated “I would actually buy the frozen which I would not have done in the past. I think the value for money came through, it was actually an eye opener, because you don’t analyse what it actually cost you for a meal do you?” which reinforces the findings as to “value for money” in frozen food.
